The Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet is hot right now, ranking as the top-performing weight loss information product in the Clickbank marketplace. And like many of the top-performing diets, it’s often difficult to separate reality from hype. While many of the website claims can be tempered somewhat with a solid understanding of the diet, the fact remains that it is in effective diet for the right person. So the question is: Is it right for you?
The first and most obvious point that I’d like to focus on is the weight loss claim; that is, the makers of the Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet state that you can lose up to 9 pounds during every eleven day calorie-shifting period while on the diet. While that sounds like an incredible claim, looking at the facts beneath the claim result in a reality that is much more believable.
When you first begin any diet, you tend to shed weight quickly. Part of this is a result of body detoxification, and part of it is your body’s response to a calorie deficit. That is, before it has time to slow down its metabolism, it continues to burn the same amount of calories as it did at higher intake levels. After several days, it begins to level itself out. With Fat Loss 4 Idiots, during every two week period you are permitted three “free” days. That is, you must eat sensibly during these days, but you don’t have to follow the regimented meal plan.
The results of these characteristics are that you gain weight near the end of each two week period, but you lose weight rapidly at the beginning. The authors of the program count total weight loss during the first 11 regimented days, but don’t count the results of the final 3 days every 2 weeks, because these days are often gains. So the effective weight loss is calculated by subtracting the gain during the final 3 days from the loss during the first 11 days. This calculation results in a much more realistic number.
This still sounds like pure fantasy, but is supported by research done for another popular diet, the Cheat to Lose Diet. The premise is that during periods of overeating, your body replenishes its supply of leptin, a key fat-burning hormone. If you then follow a strict diet while leptin levels are high, it triggers your body to shed weight.
But here’s the catch that many dieters have trouble overcoming: after the cheat days, you must remain disciplined enough to get back on the diet for the next 1.5 weeks. That’s actually harder than it sounds! Conversely, if you do have the discipline, the diet is very easy to maintain, as you can satisfy any diet cravings you have every two weeks.
